Publication: Production and stability of cultured red blood cells depends on the concentration of cholesterol in culture medium

Although generally safe, blood transfusion medicine faces a few major challenges. In this investigation, a group of scientists used a CASY cell counter and analyzer to expand and maintain the density of erythroblast cultures. Due to the accuracy of cell numbers in culture, the scientists were able to find that cholesterol supplementation increased the production of red blood cells in culture.
